Mark Ronson Teases Possibility of a ‘Barbie’ Broadway Musical

Mark Ronson is hoping that Barbie will be Broadway-bound.

The Barbie soundtrack producer said he would “absolutely” want to be involved in a musical version of the movie while chatting with reporters at the 2024 Critics Choice Awards on Sunday.

“I’m just waiting for the call,” he said. “It would be amazing. Greta [Gerwig] basically made a musical that’s without calling it a musical, so we would love it.”

Mark Ronson and cowriter Andrew Wyatt took home the award for Best Song for “I’m Just Ken!” performed by Ryan Gosling in the film.

He thanked the actor during his acceptance speech.

"Ryan Gosling, this is as much your award as ours," he said, who jokingly faked a deadpan reaction when the award was announced (that has since gone viral)

"You made the audience fall in love with this song with your matchless performance, so thank you."

Speaking of director Greta Gerwig, he said, "The fact that you carved out 11 minutes for this prog-rock, power-ballad, dream-ballet, shred fest so the boys could cry and hold hands a little too, we're really forever in your debt for that.”

The song beat fellow Barbie tracks “Dance the Night” (Dua Lipa) and “What Was I Made For?" (Billie Eilish) to the award Sunday. Other nominees included “Road to Freedom” (Lenny Kravitz) from Rustin, Julia Michaels-penned “This Wish” from Disney’s Wish, and The Super Mario Bros. Movie song “Peaches.”
