Caught On Video: Man Struck By Lightning in New Jersey

A New Jersey man was stuck by lightning on Wednesday and lived to tell about it.

39-year-old Eric Baumgartner was painting lines on a soccer field in Woodbridge Township. He tried to finish before the rain began, but the lighting was already stirring.

A neighbor's security camera video shows Baumgartner taking the bolt of electricity, knocking him unconscious.

Luckily, Officer R.J. McPartland was finishing his shift at a nearby high school and was able to respond and administer CPR. McPartland said, "I was in my car, and I did see a very large lightning strike, and, you know, I said to myself, 'Wow, that seemed really close."

He continued, "We were able to see, you know, some burn marks appeared on his hands, so that's how we were kind of able to determine what happened, and we knew that he just needed to, you know, start compressions to get his heart going again."

Baumgartner was rushed to a local hospital. Sixteen percent of his body was burned, but he is in stable condition.

One of his friends said Eric doesn't remember being struck by lightning.
