Brain Implants Help Paralyzed Man To Walk Again

A man who was paralyzed in a cycling accident 12 years ago can now walk just by thinking about it, thanks to electronic brain implants.

The brain implants send a wireless signal to a spine implant. Nerve cells then carry that information down to 40-year-old Gert- Jan Oskam's legs and feet.

The system is still in its experimental stage but Oskam is thrilled, saying "It has been a long journey, but now I can stand up and have a beer with my friend. It's a pleasure that many people don't realize."

He says he feels like "a toddler learning to walk".

Researchers hope to make this technology more accessible as they continue to test the implants.
