Register your team to walk in the Greater Guilford Heart and Stroke Walk! Nearly 5,000 Greater Guilford County residents will be walking for change at the 2019 Greater Guilford Heart and Stroke Walk on Saturday, May 18 at Kaplan Commons at UNC Greensboro. The annual non-competitive 5k walk is designed to bring public awareness of the prevalence of heart disease and stroke, educate our community that heart disease and stroke are 80% preventable, and raise the critical dollars needed to fund the life-saving mission of the American Heart Association. The Guilford Heart & Stroke Walk is a rain or shine event.
Sponsored by Cone Health, the event is hosted by 99.5 WMAG’s Lora Songster and includes a survivor ceremony, sponsor tents with giveaways, great activities for kids, a VIP section for Veterans and hands only CPR training. Registration and fun activities begin at 8 a.m. and the Walk starts at 9 a.m.
Proud pet parents will let their dressed-up doggies walk the red carpet in the Heart & Stroke Walk’s Pooches on Parade. All the doggie contestants will have their photos taken and posted on the TriadAHA Facebook page. The pup picture with the most “likes” will be named the Guilford Heart & Stroke Walk Pooch of the Year and will be featured in next year’s ads and program.
All funds raised for the Greater Guilford Heart & Stroke Walk benefit heart disease and stroke research and prevention education for the community. Currently, five AHA-funded research grants, totaling more than $1.6 million, are taking place in the Triad at UNC Greensboro, NC A&T and Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
