Saint Nick (“Nick”) was rescued alongside his sweet brothers on Christmas Eve Eve when he (and 6 others) were surrendered to a local animal shelter. Nick is a dachshund mix weighing about 14 lbs. is about 2-3 years old. He is quiet and shy — but such a wonderful love bug once you get to know him.In his foster home, Nick has been exposed to other dogs, cats and kids — and done beautifully with everyone he meets (even the kitty cat)! Nick has been 100% house trained in his foster home but we like to caution any adopters that dachshunds are notorious for needing routine around their potty habits — so any new home should expect at least a few accidents as he adjusts. Nick really is a wonderful all around little guy that will make a wonderful addition to most any home. He is playful with other dogs and would enjoy a canine friend in his new home. He is crate trained and is working on his manners with leashes — though he came into rescue quite shy and is sometimes hesitant to go at first on a leash. Beyond just navigating this wonderful new life he gained at Christmas — Saint Nick is ready to go to his new home!Nick has been vaccinated, heart worm tested, microchipped and neutered — ready for his belated holiday wish to come true…a new adoptive forever home! Local applicants to Central NC are preferred but all applications will be reviewed. Any approved adopter would be REQUIRED to travel to Nick’s foster mom to adopt as he will not be put on a transport. Please apply through www.almosthomerescue.org Adoption Fee: $150

Papai Noel was one of seven dogs dumped at the shelter right before Christmas and is looking for his forever home. He was super attached to his brothers and felt a little lost without them. Because Noel is a fearful and takes cues from the other dogs in his foster home, he’d do best in a home with another dog. Noel has shown some mild resource guarding tendencies so we’d like to find him a forever home where he can learn how to be a confident, outgoing dog who feels assured that love, food, a spot on the sofa and plenty of toys are lifelong guarantees.Noel looks like a black Labrador puppy but this dachshund mix, weighing just 15 pounds, is full grown. He walks well on a leash, sleeps in a crate and has never had an accident in the house. He got the nickname “shadow” because he follows his foster family very closely, often getting underfoot so he’ll need a forever home with older children who can watch out for him. Noel’s fearful nature also means he’s a flight risk so a fenced yard or a family committed to keeping him on leash outdoors is a must.Who wants to show Noel that true love is patient and kind? He is up-to-date on his vaccines, heartworm negative and is being neutered this week. His adoption fee is $150.
