Seventh Annual Professional Grief and Loss Conference

In conjunction with its Seventh Annual Grief and Loss Professional Conference, Hospice of Davidson County is hosting a free community grief workshop at Davidson County Community College.

The free community workshop is scheduled for Tuesday, October 16 from 6-8 p.m. and presented by Dr. Alan Wolfelt. Titled “Loving From the Outside In, Mourning From the Inside Out,” Wolfelt will showcase how you can help yourself heal when someone dies.

On Wednesday, October 17, Wolfet will lead Hospice of Davidson County’s Seventh Annual Professional Conference on Grief and Loss from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. This year’s topic, “The Art of ‘Companioning’ the Mourner: Caring Versus Curing,” will enhance knowledge and skills related to supporting people experiencing grief and loss.

Anchored in Wolfelt’s “companioning” model of grief care, there will be a recognition of how grief and mourning are normal and necessary experiences that are fundamentally a journey of the heart and soul. A critical distinction between caring versus curing will be outlined.

The registration fee for the one-day conference is $85, $70 per person for three or more attending from the same organization and $60 for clergy, educators and students. Lunch is included with registration.

Wolfelt is an educator, grief counselor and author of more than 50 books. Recipient of the Association for Death Education and Counseling’s Death Educator Award, he serves as the Director of the Center for Loss and Life Transition in Fort Collins, Colorado. He is also a faculty member of the University of Colorado Medical School’s Department of Family Medicine.

The conference is approved for six continuing education credits via The Association for Death Education and Counseling and the North Carolina Board of Funeral Service and the National Board for Certified Counselors.

Both events will be located at the Mary E. Rittling Conference Center at Davidson County Community College, 297 DCCC Road, Thomasville, N.C.

Registration is required and is now open for both events until October 5.
