Argument leads to shots fired inside Hanes Mall

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Winston-Salem police said an argument between two groups led to shots fired near the food court inside Hanes Mall on Monday. Two men were detained, but a third suspect got away, police said.

Officers were called to the mall shortly before 4 p.m. They found live ammunition and shell casings inside the lower level.

According to a release, surveillance video showed Jameel Zimmerman, 20, pulled out a gun and fired multiple rounds towards another group of men. Police said a man from the other group then fired back and both groups ran away from the mall. Police said no one was shot.

Officers saw Zimmerman and another man, Antonio Barnes, 21, running toward the Carolina Ale House, the release said. Barnes was arrested without incident and Zimmerman was apprehended at the mall after a brief chase.
