Deadly Butler High Shooting Began as a 'Bullying Incident

MATTHEWS, N.C. — Matthews Police have identified the suspect in Monday morning's deadly school shooting at Butler High School.

Investigators said 16-year-old Jatwan Cuffie shot a classmate during a fight, and the victim, 16-year-old Bobby McKeithen, later died.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Superintendent Dr. Clayton Wilcox said the shooting happened in one of the school's main hallway before classes Monday morning. A Matthews Police spokesperson said surveillance video showed the fight that led to the shooting.
