Hurricane Florence: First Major Hurricane Of The 2018 Atlantic Season

The National Hurricane Center has upgraded Hurricane Florence to a category 3 making it the firsts major hurricane of the Atlantic season.

Recent satellite imagery suggests that the storm's winds have increased to 120 mph making it a category three hurricane. Storms that reach category three or higher are considered major hurricanes by definition.

The center of Hurricane Florence is located near latitude 21.4 North, longitude 44.8 West.  Florence is moving toward the northwest near 13 mph.  The storm is forecasted to turn toward the west-northwest later today and this general motion is expected to continue in the short term.  She is, however, expected to turn back north and east by the weekend.

She is too far out in the Atlantic for any predicitions to be made about her landfall location.
