Empty Bowls

Feeding Community…Together

There’s an energy and a warm feeling that fills the room at Empty Bowls.  People from all over Northwest North Carolina come together to share a simple meal with a simple mission: to end hunger.

It is truly a community led event: local restaurants donate pots of their signature soups, local potters donate handcrafted bowls, and the community comes together to share a meal, raise funds, and promote awareness of the high levels of food insecurity that too many of our neighbors face.

For 17 years, Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina has organized this beloved local event, this year adding in a dinner event.  Year round, Second Harvest Food Bank works to reclaim food that would otherwise go to waste and get it to the seniors, children, and families in need. Beyond food, Second Harvest works to eliminate the root causes of poverty by helping move residents into family-supporting wage jobs in the food industry, working collaboratively on place-based initiatives, and by advocating for community action and policies that support our neighbors who are at risk of hunger.  The success of this Winston-Salem tradition comes from the support that we receive each year from our community of sponsors, local restaurants, friends, supporters, local chefs, artists and YOU.
